Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield blazoned: Azure, a winged eagle's claw Proper bordered gyronny of ten Argent and Sable. Attached at top and bottom of the shield, a blue scroll inscribed "WE DEFEND" at top and "FROM ABOVE" in base, all in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Ultramarine blue is the primary color traditionally associated with U.S. Army Aviation units. The winged eagle's claw alludes to the unit's mission and capabilities. The colors, white and black represent twenty-four hour service, flexibility and responsiveness.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved effective 1 October 1987 for the 108th Aviation Regiment.

The coat of arms was approved effective 1 October 1987 for the 108th Aviation Regiment. It was amended to delete the Army National Guard crests for Oregon and Arizona on 8 January 2008.
